Posting from Hong Kong airport

January 18, 2007

Just piggybacking of airport WiFi. Wow, that was a fun 20 hr trip. Just waiting for the flight to Manila. I got like 20 injections and my Malaria pills. I’ll be off in the jungle so not sure of internet access. My books list:

Lost Victories

Marcus Aurelius Meditiations

Elliot Wave Theory

Later

P.S. I know you mean well, but if you have a baby of any sort please do not set me near. We Germans believe children are meant to be seen and not heard. Please??? Please?????

Leaving for Holidays soon!

January 15, 2007

I had a great weekend and managed to spend it with friends and family. It was my Dad’s 80th on Saturday and the whole family was there so that was nice. Any my youngest sister announced that she was engaged. She’s happy and I am happy for her! I got together with some friends Sunday to decide the fate of the free world. Unfortunately to do Evil Dr Ward removing the achilles heel of my partisans (aka the Jay-Ro big unit special) the fate of the free world is unclear as the Euro Socialists threaten Buffalo and New York, while the Southern Alliance has taken Houston and Chinese are marching on Salt Lake City.  (From Fortress America, one of the classic games of my childhood and still alot of fun).

Thanks for the kind words…

January 10, 2007

and thanks to all of you who helped me get through the year. It was tough and I leaned on some of you but I really appreciated your support. I think the nadir was some time in June (it may or may not have involved the famous words “I refuse to submit…”). The MBA was a great learning experience. I learned just as much from my classmates as I did from the profs. In fact I might have learned more. Anyways, special thanks to my MBA classmates who I worked with and got to know throughout the course of the year. It was a blast.

A couple of people have asked what’s next? Well, first thing is some rest and relaxation for the next couple of weeks, as I am on vacation next Thursday and fly to the Phillipines and then Hong Kong for my girlfriend’s wedding. I will be using this time to workout and read. Then the plan is to write the three licensing exams, host a poker tournament in February, host a MTG draft or Pro Tour tourney in Feb/March (exam dependant), write CMT level 1 in April, Prepare for CMA entrance in the fall and potentially write CMT level II in October and maybe the FRM in November (aka the Ivory Tower/Land Tax/Armageddon Combo).

My new position does not leave my much time during the week so I plan on trying a new hobby for destressing, painting. We’ll see how that plays itself out!

P.S. Apparantly the gauntlet has been thrown down and some Street Fighter II has been added to the mix for Sunday. I rate my odds as very good with Ryu or Ken and crappy with everyone else.

I did it!

January 9, 2007

Well, I finished the year and I got my MBA. It was gruelling at times but I definitely learned a tonne. I have some time off so my posts will be sparse. I have to figure out what books I am bringing along for my trip. I think I can power through at least 1 good book on the flight to the Phillipines (18 hours?) and then 1 on the way back. My thoughts:

Elliot Wave Principles

Caesar

Art of War

Armageddon

…..?

I am currently reading Red Storm Rising which I will try and review tomorrow…

Last Assignment Due Tomorrow + Ku Klux Klan Protest In Washington

January 3, 2007

Sorry for the lack of posts, just trying to finish this up. I ran into an old friend downtown yesterday evening and hope to be able to catch up with them soon. Here is an interesting thing I just snagged from Yahoo:

WASHINGTON – Rep.-elect Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to Congress, will use a Quran once owned by Thomas Jefferson during his ceremonial swearing-in Thursday.

Library of Congress’ rare book and special collections division, Mark Dimunation, will walk the Quran across the street to the Capitol and then walk it back after the ceremony.

Ellison, D-Minn., contacted the library about the book last month, Dimunation said.

Some critics have argued that only a Bible should be used for the swearing-in. Last month, Virginia Rep. Virgil Goode, R-Va., warned that unless immigration is tightened, “many more Muslims” will be elected and follow Ellison’s lead. Ellison was born in Detroit and converted to Islam in college.

God bless you Virgil Goode, you are right! The U.S. needs less tolerance and more illiteracy. God Bless America! Now where are those *#%$ WMD’S!!!
