How you can make the world a better place, 1 person at a time… (A MUST READ!!!)

August 5, 2006

So I was just trying to waste some time this morning before I study, when I came across a post that caught my eye. It was the post of someone who is a fan of Texas Hold Em, and has some political views as well. Cool I thought and read on. Well, it became apparant to me that this person was very distrustful of Islam and had some borderline genocidal material which most people would consider offensive. Here’s an example of what he has posted on his site.

An e-mail joke from a friend:

Dallas ATC: “Tower to Saudi Air 911–You are cleared to land eastbound on runway 9R.”
Saudi Air: “Thank you Dallas ATC. Acknowledge cleared to land on infidel’s runway 9R -Allah be Praised !!”
Dallas ATC “Tower to Iran Air 711–You are cleared to land westbound on runway 9R.”
Iran Air: “Thank you Dallas ATC. We are cleared to land on infidel’s runway 9R. -Allah is Great !!”

Pause: Static………….

Saudi Air: “DALLAS ATC! DALLAS ATC!!!”
Dallas ATC: “Go ahead Saudi Air 911?”
Saudi Air: “YOU HAVE CLEARED BOTH OUR AIRCRAFT FOR THE SAME RUNWAY GOING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS!!! WE ARE ON A COLLISION COURSE!!! INSTRUCTIONS PLEASE!!!
Dallas ATC: Well bless your hearts. Y’all be careful now and tell Allah “hey” for us — ya hear?.

Moral: DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS GOD BLESS AMERICA!

So on his latest post I offered the following reply. I hope he takes me up on the offer of dialogue, and as per my previous posts, I hope he manages to open both his heart and mind, and to step back as a third person to determine how he has come about his point of view. This is what I posted below to his site, but he has set it up so that he has to approve/reject comments fits. I am curious and hopefull, as I would love to promote tolerance and understanding through dialogue.

Do you have any muslim friends? The key to promoting tolerance is to surround yourself with those that are different than you. It also allows those people to see your point of view. Hang out with them, talk to them, party with them, see what they are like. Anger and isolation is not good for the soul. People have always hijacked religion for their own purposes in every religion, but smearing everyone with the same brush does more to divide than to bring people together. Remember if you grew up in Afghanistan or Lebanon or Iraq, the movie Red Dawn holds the same connection. They portrayed guerillas as resistance fighters which is no different than how the people over there view themselves, especially given the recent violations of the Geneva Convention by both American and Israeli forces. In the movie Red Dawn did the guerillas offer the Soviets the opportunity to fight head on? Of course not, one missle aimed from miles away would end that instantly. I think the hardest thing in life, but the most rewarding is to try and understand other people and tear down barriers, not build them. I am no different than you, and would love to play you in Hold Em some time. I invite you to open, insightful, and honest discusion. I hope you will accept.

:)

I have posted his site under my blog, and I will visit regularly to see how he is doing. I wish him happiness and health and I hope you will visit his site too. I think that with history as with politics or anything else in life, the truth always lies somewhere in the middle…

So please visit his site. Remember, every person has tremendous influence, especially on the young, and I would hope that this person will be able to take other points of view into account and open his arms and embrace those people from other cultures.

  1. That is the worst Holdem Blog I have ever seen. What a waste of a wordpress subdomain.

But ‘Play Poker With A Muslim’ what is next ‘Eat A Pork Covered Pizza Because You Are Stressed Out About Your Workload With A Muslim’ or ‘Discuss Your Premarital Sexual Exploits With A Muslim’.

    Naughty Muslim.

  2. Ummm, you don’t read political blogs that often do you?

  3. Keep it up (like I do :-) ) Great site – loved the bit about yourselves.
